How to Align Your Inner Fire with Your Boldest Dreams

What It Means to Have the Energy to Play Full Out

Imagine waking up every day feeling completely aligned with who you are, what you want, and the impact you’re here to make versus rolling out of bed and falling into your day-to-day routine of busy work or thoughtless routines. Yes, routines can be and are important… as long as they are intentional and not allowed to become mundane.

The power of showing up, living fully, playing full out —when your energy flows effortlessly because it’s fueled by purpose, raw authenticity, and a huge roaring spark of life inside of you is the holy grail…

And, just in case you are wondering, it isn’t about chasing perfection (thank goodness!) or just checking goals off a list; it’s about unlocking the inner energy that allows you to show up at your best, achieve your highest potential, express what your soul is longing to express in this life, and create a ripple effect of inspiration. When you harness this energy, you don’t just live—you thrive, becoming a beacon for others - and in some cases without you even knowing it - giving permission for others to do the same! ☀️

Step 1: The Energy Audit

Start by evaluating where your energy is going and what’s draining it. We have said it before, but it bears repeating: most of us don’t have a time problem, we have an energy problem. If there are things you really want to do (write a book, learn a new recipe, take dance classes, etc) but you’re sitting in front of the TV at night instead, it’s not that you don’t have the time… you just don’t have the energy. 

And … news flash… resting isn’t going to give you energy. Doing what matters most to you is your energy ignition point! 🔥

List out the top three things that give you energy and the top three that drain it. This clarity helps you make intentional choices about your focus. It may not seem like a big deal if you let a day or two go by that you aren’t completely focused on what matters most to you…. until you realize a day, a month, a year, multiple years have gone by and you have nothing to show for it.. and you’re exhausted, have no big dreams anymore, and just trying to make it through the day. It happens so quickly and so easily that you’ve really got to stay awake!

Remember, amplifying your energy isn’t just about doing more; it’s about doing what matters most with full engagement. These are the things that light you up - ignite that spark of life inside of you!

🗝️ Key Question: Are you pouring your energy into activities that align with your strengths and passions?

Step 2: Aligning Purpose with Energy

Your energy becomes magnetic when it’s aligned with your purpose. When people see someone genuinely passionate and purpose-driven, they’re naturally drawn to that. Consider your daily actions: Are they moving you closer to your goals, or are they reactive and scattered? Commit to one small, purpose-driven action each day. This creates a ripple effect—not just in your results, but in how others perceive and connect with you.

✔️Action Step: Start your day with a 5-minute purpose-setting exercise. Ask yourself: “What is the one action today that will serve my purpose and inspire others?” OR even better: “What is my soul wanting to express through me today?”

Step 3: Physical Energy: The Foundation 💪🏻

Your physical energy is your baseline. Without it, emotional or mental inspiration can not only feel forced, but can be completely overwhelming.

Focus on three pillars:

  1. Movement: Regular exercise increases energy flow, boosts mood, and keeps you physically prepared to take on challenges. Sunny loves to go for daily walks outside in nature when the weather allows… it can be as simple as this! Or you can hit the gym or play a game of pickleball 😜

  2. Nutrition: What you eat directly impacts how you feel. I think we all KNOW this… but it is important to prioritize whole foods, hydrate consistently throughout your entire day, and minimize energy-zapping processed items as much as possible.

  3. Rest: High performers often wear exhaustion like a badge of honor. And let’s be clear. We really do think our bodies crave movement and even exhaustion at times… but restorative sleep and moments of stillness fuel sustainable energy.

→ Pro Tip: Experiment with "power rituals" like morning stretches, midday walks, or an evening gratitude journal to reset your energy at key moments of the day.

Emotional Energy: The Multiplier ✖️

Your emotional energy comes from your mindset, relationships, and environment. Cultivate relationships with people who uplift and energize you, and limit interactions with people, music, or media that drains you. Practice gratitude to amplify positive emotions—it’s an instant energy booster. Music also gives us dopamine hits! Listening to music (or playing an instrument) can boost your happiness levels quickly. Reframing challenges as opportunities also helps you shift from stress to empowerment.

Of course, we could write a whole novel about this section, but the above is a good start! Another important reframe that is definitely worth bringing up is past emotional wounds and traumas. Taking on the affirmation that life is happening FOR you and not TO you helps you see your challenges and trials as events that have benefited you and helped you bring your gifts forward instead of hurting you.

✔️ Action Step: Try an "energy inventory" at the end of each day. Reflect on one moment where you felt energized and one where you felt drained. Use this insight to adjust tomorrow’s actions.

Final Thoughts and Duende - Transcendental Energy ⚡️

The poet, Garcia Lorca, introduced the term duende as a mysterious force, an unearthly and passionate energy that artists tap into to achieve raw, authentic expression. Duende comes from deep within, rooted in struggle, pain, and authenticity. It’s also what makes our energy and the things we bring forth into this world transcendental - it’s raw, primal, and unfiltered.

In Clarissa Pinkola Estes’ audiobook, The Late Bloomer, she talks about a story in Garcia’s Havana lectures about a Flamenco contest. All the beautiful young men and women danced, and they danced beautifully. But it was the old woman who came out with the broken down shoes, veiny legs, her hands worn with age, stringy, dirty hair, and her torn dress… and moving her arms gracefully, winding and winding her hands on her wrist over her head. She gave one violent stomp on the floorboards, threw back her head … and won the dance contest.

Why?

“Because she had been cut down, taken down the river, turned into something different from where she started. Had lived life down at the bottom, had taken good record of it, and it was all still inside of her.”

If you have had challenges, trials, and disappointment after disappointment but are still awake and still standing… still here to live and live fully… your inner fire is waiting for you to tap into it. True energy, the kind that inspires and moves others, doesn’t come from external polish or superficial perfection. It comes from tapping into our raw, authentic core—our struggles, passions, and truth. In the context of confidence and magnetism, this means embracing imperfections, leaning into vulnerability, and allowing our inner fire to shine through.

Duende reminds us that the energy we project is most impactful when it’s deeply authentic. Just like a flamenco dancer with duende captivates an audience, a person aligned with their inner energy becomes magnetic, drawing others to their presence with an irresistible force.

This newsletter (and podcast) is about playing full out. Playing full out means leaving nothing on the table - to have really lived. It means showing up with every ounce of energy, passion, and authenticity you have, even when it’s uncomfortable. It’s about silencing the whispers (and sometimes screams) of fear, pushing past the limits of what you thought was possible, rejecting lethargy, and stepping boldly into the life you’re meant to live.

When you play full out, you’re not just chasing dreams; you’re creating a life so vibrant, so aligned, and so magnetic that it pulls others to rise alongside you. So, go all in—because anything less than your full energy is a disservice to the incredible potential within you!!
