Imagine this: You’re broke, rejected by literally everyone for your appearance, and on the verge of losing hope. You’ve got a big dream, but it feels like the world is shouting, “Not gonna happen.”

That’s where Sylvester Stallone was before he wrote Rocky. He’d been turned down by over 1,500 agents in New York, sold his beloved dog for $25 just to buy food, and still hadn’t made any progress in his dream of being in the movies

$106 to His Name and He Had to Sell His Dog

Sylvester Stallone was at rock bottom financially when he wrote the Rocky script. He had just $106 in his bank account and was living in a tiny apartment that he could barely afford. Things were so dire that he sold his dog, Butkus, for $25 at a liquor store because he couldn't afford to feed him. For Stallone, Butkus wasn’t just a pet—he was his best friend—so that decision was completely devastating.

He was finally offered $360,000 for the Rocky script (equivalent to over $1.7 million today), it was life-changing money. Accepting it would’ve pulled him out of poverty instantly. But Stallone refused because the deal excluded him from playing Rocky. Producers didn’t want Stallone - they wanted a big-name actor, not some guy with a slurred voice and unpolished look (which, by the way, he had partial paralysis in his face because of complications that happened when he was born).

Most people would’ve taken the money. Not Stallone. He believed in his dream so much that he said, “No deal.” Eventually, the producers caved, and Rocky became a cultural phenomenon, winning Oscars and inspiring millions. He wrote down all the things the producers had said about the script when they turned it down and read them out loud at the Oscars when he won! Things like, “It’s too sappy, it’s too predictable, this is stupid
” Well.. the best revenge is massive success!

Oh, and Stallone got his dog back - the guy he sold him to wanted $15,000 and a part in his movie
 but Stallone agreed!

So, What’s Holding You Back?

Stallone’s story isn’t just about boxing or movies—it’s about playing full out in life. And if you’re like most entrepreneurs, something’s probably stopping you from stepping into the ring of your own life. Let’s name it:

  • Fear: What if I fail?

  • Lethargy: I’ll start tomorrow (a classic!).

  • Self-Doubt: Who am I to think I can do this?

Sound familiar? Good. Now let’s crush it. Let’s go!đŸ’„

3 Steps to Play Full Out Like Stallone

  • Write Your Script (Your Vision):
What’s your Rocky? Get crystal clear on your vision. Write it down like it’s a blockbuster movie starring YOU. The more specific, the better. We talk about this a lot in our Magnetic program, but if you want to be so successful you can hardly believe it yourself
. you’ve got to live from your future self, not your current.

  • Bet on Yourself:
Be like Stallone. Say “no” to the easy outs that don’t align with your big vision. If your vision is the focus, it’s actually easy to filter out anything that doesn’t align with it. We recommend the book “10x is Easier than 2x” by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan for more insights and actionable steps on how to keep your focus and accomplish really big goals and dreams.

  • Take the Punches and Keep Swinging:
Rejections? Failures? Setbacks? They’re just part of the game. We’ve mentioned approaching life like it’s a game quite a bit, but it always bears repeating. If you look at every setback or challenge as a video game - then you’re just leveling up, it’s not the end of the game. Just keep trying until you unlock the next level without all the emotional baggage that we humans like to embrace (for some ridiculous reason). Stallone got knocked down, but he didn’t stay down. Neither should you. Every “no” gets you closer to a “yes.”

Final Thought

Playing full out isn’t about being fearless—it’s about moving forward even when fear is along for the ride. It’s about saying, “This is my story, and I’m writing it my way.”

Stallone didn’t wait for someone to give him permission. He created his shot. So today, ask yourself: What would playing full out look like for me? Then take one step toward it. Just one. Because momentum changes everything.

Let’s get out there and fight for our dreams. You’re the star of this show—time to act like it. 🎬

P.S. If you’re ready to get out of the stands and into the ring, reply and tell me your “Rocky” moment. I’d love to cheer you on! đŸ„Š
