What To Do When Setbacks Knock You Emotionally Off Balance... and Style Doesn't Trump Energy
A true story about Kobe Bryant
Imagine being the youngest up and coming star in basketball. It’s your first year in the professional league and your team makes the playoffs. All eyes are on you as you are the young superstar. In the last minute of the game you have three shots to win the game for your team… and you miss all three. At the end of the game, the television commentators are all discussing how astounded they are that you missed all three shots.
In the meantime, you are sitting down on the bench with your head bowed down. Your arms are behind your head with your fingers locked over the back of your head in a defeated state.
The commenters are all buzzing on about how you must be feeling dreadful. When you come off the court, you are interviewed. They say, “You had your head down and your hands behind your head… you must have felt terrible!”
Where do you go from here? What would you say?
This is a true story about Kobe Bryant as told by Bill Beswick, a legendary sports psychologist, and is a remarkable example of how winners win.
Kobe looked at them and he said, “What’s feeling got to do with it? I was working out why I missed those shots. I now know why I missed those shots and I can do something about it.”
When you are in the trenches, endeavoring to do something great you are always going to have setbacks. BIG ONES. How you cope with them is the difference between becoming a winner and reaching those big dreams and goals. Setbacks knock you emotionally off balance - but you’ve got to reach beyond the emotion to get to the following questions:
Why did I have that setback?
What can I learn from it?
How am I going to avoid it in the future?
…. and go on!
Style Doesn’t Trump Energy
Our MAGNETIC crew hit the big town of Las Vegas last week and there was definitely some top secret style training happening within the walls of Ricci’s Hidden Room inside Maceoo (a retail store found in the Aria Resort & Casino).
A huge lightning bolt could well have come right through the roof to strike us all as Bart guided our crew through the nuances of the energetic state you are in regardless of what you wear. We often think that whatever we have on will portray what we want it to about us… but this isn’t always the case.
A question was asked…”How would you describe someone who is in her feminine energy? Or what does feminine mean to you?”
The answers were somewhere along the lines of sexy clothes, hair done up, makeup, maybe some high heels… but essentially all dressed up.
However… the truth of the matter is… it doesn’t matter what you wear as much as what your energy is. For example, a woman can be dressed to the hilt but still show up in her masculine energy. (If you want to learn about how we all have both energies inside of us, be sure to visit podcast Episode 37: Balancing Energies for Life Mastery) You could also have a woman who is completely dressed down who can turn that feminine energy on like no other, irregardless of her style choice at the moment.
This suddenly translated into a lot of different scenarios that causes one to pause for thought. Are you aware of the energetic states you are in that either repel or draw people into you? Are you aware of the energy you portray, no matter what you are wearing or even what you are saying? Can you cause chaos in your home or relationships based simply on your energy? Yes! It may not be the words you are speaking to your partner or spouse. It may not be the words you are speaking to your children. It is likely the energy you are bringing to the conversations you are having!
As you portray yourself to the world and as you dress a certain way or express yourself through style or other means… keep in mind that none of that is greater than the energetic state you are in at any given time!
Bart & Sunny Updates!
FHL International was a great success for us and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with friends as well as making new ones! It was also great to get home! The funny thing about Vegas is we spent 99% of the time indoors… and we were excited about getting outside again!
This week was an I Do Epic ELITE coaching week. We are always so excited to get on calls and talk with such amazing humans and entrepreneurs creating incredible programs and making big things happen!
Xander played in his first youth pickleball league last night. He CRUSHED it. It is so fun to watch him play. He is on the advanced team and had some absolutely incredible shots.
Mercedes is still making candles like crazy and is only about 3 weeks away from welcoming little Lyla into the family. We are so excited we can hardly stand it!
Sunny got to go enjoy a fun little jam session with her Dad and little sisters (Kelly and Kadee). She played the mandolin, Kadee played keyboards, Kelly played bass, and her Dad (the Guitar Guy) played guitar.
We both had a pickleball lesson yesterday as well! It was super fun… and yes, we love to hire coaches because if you aren’t being coached… you probably aren’t making the progress you would like to make!
