FHL "Secrets" and What Success Really Requires
The elephant in the room
FHL International is in full swing this week, and as we listen to each presentation we are reminded of event architecture and how to make events a purpose-driven payday.
Presentation after presentation goes like this: I had a big dream or goal, I was broke, I tried and failed, then I did this, and now I am in the two comma club. And you can do it, too!"
That is simplifying it, of course, but if a presenter does his or her job you will walk away feeling like whatever they are teaching is something anyone can do.
However, the big elephant in the room that most people avoid is that tactics and strategies will only get you so far. Tools and tech will only get you so far. Seeing what someone else can accomplish (though very important, let’s be clear)… you guessed it! It can only get you so far. |
Brendon Burchard did a great job in his presentation calling out the anesthetizing lifestyle we are all becoming accustomed to. Companies and influencers are being paid big bucks to steal moments of our lives away from us and we are the ones happily paying them to do it.
He said something to the effect of that every adult spends about 2 hours a day just scrolling on social media with no direction or reason for doing it. The math he mentioned was something like 2 hours a day x 30 days a week = 60 hours a month. Time matters. Time matters more than you may even think … here’s why:
Time Matters Because It Mirrors Your Goals
In our presentation we dived deep into the fact that we are goal-driven people. We know what kind of reaction that can get. BLAH. Another goal created, another goal left unaccomplished. Why set them? It’s defeating! And it’s a valid point - the majority of New Years Resolutions are abandoned two weeks into the new year! How about… just focus on the process and the result will follow? Ehhhh - not quite.
Here’s the truth if you’re ready for it: a goal simply moves you to a desired outcome. That means every single thing you do in your day is because you are goal-driven, meaning you want an outcome.
You eat food because you want an outcome: to no longer be hungry.
You take a nap because you want an outcome: to no longer be tired or to get recharged.
You go to the gym because you want an outcome: to look hot or want to feel healthy and strong
You put the time in at work because you want an outcome: to make money, make an impact, or both
You binge Netflix or social media because you want an outcome: a dopamine hit, to numb yourself, to be entertained…
You get the gist of it!
But here’s the thing: time matters because how you spend your time is a direct reflection of your goals.
The question then becomes, are you spending time getting outcomes that you don’t really value? Because if you are, you are not in the driver’s seat of your life. You’re not proactively architecting your life. You’re not writing your story - you’re allowing it to be written for you.
The “secret of success” (if there is such a thing) is simple: choose your purpose, set a big old goal that excites the crap out of you, and align your day-to-day activities in reaching it. Use that goal as your filter for everything you do in your day - is this going to get me closer to my outcome or further away from it?
Choose your time wisely. Put the needed work in. Stay focused. And watch your life become everything you dream it can be 🙂
Life Updates!
WELL. We have had quite a week! We had an absolute BLAST watching the pro pickleball players at the PPA tour. True to fashion Bart networked like a pro and single-handedly helped a player he had never met before win his match. Listen to the podcast for that interesting story…
Twenty-one Pilots did not disappoint! Yes, it was the same concert as two weeks ago, but this time was super fun because we could spend more time watching the stage graphics and everything going on around us because we weren’t as concerned with getting photos and videos!
Our Magnetic crew arrived on the 2nd and we shopped until we dropped! Actually… we did a little training first in a hidden, secret room inside Maceoo for almost a full day and then shopped until 9 PM! Yes - it’s about style but it’s so much more than that. We experienced many insightful moments about stepping into your authentic power that were very impactful for all of us!
Russell Brunson arrived on the 3rd and we spent a good portion of the day shopping with him. Bart always comes in with a win - no matter how little time we have to pull things together. Russell looks amazing and is doing his thing all week on stage in person and all around the world via Zoom!
We will be attending FHL tomorrow and for most of the day Saturday before we finally board a plane to head back home on Sunday. What a whirlwind of a week!
